From Kneeling to Lifelong Bonds: My First Night at Boarding School

It’s 1995. I am driving with my sisters to Mfantsipim Boarding School. We are driving from Kumasi. We get to the school. I am as nervous as ever.

How do I survive in such a new environment?

I am lucky. My brother is in the school. I unpack my stuff in my room and quickly run to his Dormitory. I meet Daniel and Clifford kneeling at my brother’s Dormitory. I went to have to sit. My brother’s friend comes in. Within minutes I am kneeling down. We stayed there until 10 pm.

The stay was a mixture of kneeling and talking. We get back to our Dormitory at around 10:30 pm.

We get punished again for coming in late to sleep on our beds. There were only 3 beds left.

So I sleep at the bottom. Clifford sleeps on the top bunk bed. Daniel sleeps on the bottom bed next to me.

We have been friends ever since. What fate has installed for us? We can’t imagine
