Taste of Freedom: Sunday Meals in Boarding School

It’s 1996. I am in Senior Secondary school. We are in a boarding house. The dining hall food won’t kill us but it cannot be classified as food. The dining hall menu is mainly Fante Kenkey with fish soup or pepper sauce.

Our only remedy is that on Sundays after church the wife of a senior housemaster sells food.

This is the only food with taste in it. The serving of the food starts at 9:15 am. The queue is as long as all the members in school. The duration of serving is 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, there is no food left.
